• Tell us about what your business offers.

Grupo CafésGosoaBilbaínos/ byCALDERÓN® is a pair of two historical brands, both in Cantabria and in Vizcaya (Cafés Calderón and Cafés Gosoa®). They perfectly fill a market niche that had been left empty by the sector’s own inertia. We are not, nor do we want to be, a speciality coffee or coffee d’auteur. We want to be, and have managed to be, up until now, the coffee with the highest growth in Vizcaya. We did this just by showing restaurant owners that only with high-quality blends, roasted with the best technology and in an environmentally friendly way, could they increase their market share and stand out from the competition. Coffee consists of silent, mute work, where an absolute bond between the product and the restaurant worker give birth to the miracle of growth through a job well done.

• What is your added value?

Our added value is knowledge and personalised service for the customer. This means that if the customer needs us, we can visit them in less than 45 minutes. There is no other competitor on the Vizcaya market right now that can offer our services in terms of response time and the utmost quality standards that we ourselves have set for the business. In fact, in addition to other factors, this is what pushed the historic company Cafés Gosoa®  forward, and in a short time, it will be one of the most cutting-edge in all of Vizcaya.

• Who are the people at “Cafés GOSOA”?

The Cafés GosoaBilbaínos/byCALDERÓN®  Group consists of around ten people of recognised prestige in the roasted coffee sector (Marcelino Díaz and J. Ángel Mayayo) and in the raw coffee sector, as well as lawyers with extensive experience and important consultants (Iñigo G. Bilbao) who form a company destined to a privileged position in the industry within a short period of time. Which is why, in April, a new Head Sales Agent will be hired, a decisive reinforcement for the Company. His experience in Vizcaya and the education he received here make him a bastion that many companies could only wish for.

• Why did you decide on the Basque Country? What institutional support have you received?

We decided on the Basque Country for geographical, economic, and also institutional reasons. In fact, institutional support was one of the most important reasons. Everyone at Spri, Hazi (Oihane G. Ibarzábal), Beaz (Josu Bilbao), and the Deputy for Development Ainara Basurko were a foundational support with their help, encouragement, and care for us. Now, with our work and our enormous effort, we are going to repay everything they did for us.

• Which Basque Country resources would you recommend to future investors (logistics, rating people, R+D network, institutional support, supplier network, quality of life, land quality, etc.)

It is very difficult to recommend the Basque Country to future investors without mentioning everything as a whole. Because only as a whole and in its multi-faceted nature can you see the immense possibilities for growth offered by the Basque Country. Deep down, it is the union of people in their individuality that make up a society. And the Basque society is one of work, innovation, development, and an ongoing search for excellence. Which is why our place is here. Creating wealth and added value to a good, noble society with dozens of virtues to conduct any professional activity.

• Are there prizes and awards you would like to mention?

We hold some of the most important industry awards, granted by the Forum Cultural del Café. Additionally, we hold first prize for Work Merit, granted by the Asociación Europea de Economía y Competitividad (European Association of Economy and Competitiveness) of Madrid.
